“Here we are!” The vendor returned, carefully laying a leather-bound book on top of the others. “Pascal’s Guide to Magic. Perfect for an Earther. Little bit of everything. Minor healing, minor charms, little enchantments, even some elemental protection spells. It’s a steal at one-fifty, American.”
Jonas dove into his pocket for his wallet, looking back at the winged vendor for a moment. “You sure this will work?”
“Of course not!” The vendor chuckled. “Earthers have blocked magic so long, there’s no way to know if you can access that part of yourself. But, if you can open yourself up to it, magic will flow through you.”
Jonas peered into his wallet, dismayed to find he only had a handful of bills.
“I don’t suppose…”
“Course I do. Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.”
Astonished by this, even given what he had already seen, Jonas handed over his debit card. The transaction was complete in moments, and Jonas wandered over to find Rex with his new book in a plastic bag marked with thank you.
