I'm sitting here on this cold Thursday morning, realizing this book might not be as long as I thought it would. I'm on chapter thirty, at 75k words, and I'm steaming toward the end. Its coming together much in the way the rest of this first draft did. I just sit down and it comes out. I've never written anything this fast.
Dark Ember was an idea I had about 2 years ago. I wrote a single scene that popped into my head, then sat on it since I was working on The Guardian at the time. I wrote another little chapter about a year later, then went back to sitting on it to write my paranormal romance (which has since been shelved). In the end, I finished Guardian, worked on a few other things, then came back to Dark Ember.
Since I sat down to write this thing in late October, I've written almost 70k words. That's INSANE for me. I have a family, a full time job, and other responsibilities. And yet...here I am. 4 months later and I almost have a book. I am so incredibly proud of myself.
Now that the ending is unfolding, I'm pretty confident in the book I have. I hope to finish my first draft by April first, set it aside, try to query Guardian again, work on Broken Eden (maybe) or that Hades/Persephone thing I have knocking around in here. I know I can't stop writing. I have to produce words because I feel like a whole damn person since I started really committing to my writing.
Y'all. I've almost finished my second book. Mind. Blown.
On the laptop front, I'm still working with Big Rhonda. I got a mouse yesterday, since one of the reasons I replaced this beast was because the track pad was on the fritz. So, for $10 I invested in a mouse pad and little mouse, since it'll be at least a couple of weeks before Lola is back in action. (I keep changing the Lenovo's name. She's having an identity crisis.) I'm not letting anything stop me from hitting that deadline, not even a busted laptop. NO more excuses.
I'm so proud of me.
Hope all is well with y'all. Be on the look out this weekend for more excerpts from The Guardian and Dark Ember.
Maybe I'll even share a bit from Broken Eden...oooh.
Ta!
