The business end of business

I really thought writing the book was the hard part.
No. Wait, then I thought editing was hard.
Oh, man, and then there was the endless querying of agents attempting to get two different books published. Even more endless rejections and silence.
Turns out, this is the hard part.
Learning the business end of publishing and all of its separate, important pieces has been one of the great challenges of my adult life. There are so many things to do. All the lists and time allocated just don't seem to really drive home how much there is. Adding in my full-time job and my family... like, who am I kidding?
But every time my youngest daughter asks how my business is going, every time my older kids and my husband encourage me, I want to step into my office and get to business. That kind of support isn't something you can demand or expect, but it's what I'm standing on as I navigate this next part of my journey.
Today, I am answering emails, updating my spreadsheet, checking the site, and hopefully finding time to draft the Halloween short story, This Dark Possession, which is the sequel to A Dark Attachment. It's been so much fun to get back to Memphis and the Monroes.
With my other day off this week, I'm going to continue with the work on Dark Ember. We're getting so close to the opening of pre-orders, which is such an important step. I'm working on creating graphics and posts for the socials, trying to build my email list and find just a few more ARC readers. Really, the work never stops.
I do have some day job work to do this "weekend" as well. Yeah, non-stop.
If you want to keep up with all of my news, please subscribe to my mailing list and consider applying to receive an advance copy of my debut novel: Dark Ember.
Wanting to sample my work? My collection of short stories is available for free on the site!
Happy writing, friends!
